Capitals Quiet at the Deadline

2015-03-17

As the deadline creeped up Caps fans were waiting for GM Vaillancourt to make a few moves. Despite feeling the pressure to improve his team Vaillancourt stood pat and didn't bolster his team. When asked about the lack of moves Vaillancourt responded that he was quite happy with the pickups he made a few weeks before the deadline and with his team on a four game winning streak fans seemed content with their GM. The pickups Vaillancourt made before the deadline were aquiring veterans Brian Gionta, Derek Morris, Mike Fisher, chippy defenceman Kevin Bieksa and a couple prospects and picks. When asked to comment on these moves Vaillancourt responded by saying that he is estatic about the future of his club and their play this season has well exceeded his expectations. Here is the rest of his statement "when I was hired in Washington I had the plan to build the team from defence out and with the aboundance of young defenceman we have and Carey(Price) in net that i've accomplished that up to date. At the begining of the year I was looking for a top six winger and I manage to pull it off when we aquired Bobby(Ryan) the price was a little higher that I was originally willing to pay but when Bobby is a solid top six winger and thats the price you have to pay when aquiring players like that". When asked about the Ryan Johansen move to Ottawa he responded by saying that it was simply an offer he couldn't refuse. "The plan was to keep Ryan(Johansen) and have him and Ryan Getzlaf as our top two centers but when the Sens approached me with the deal he included Fisher to replace Johansen on our second line I couldn't refuse, hopefully we can get a top two pick with the Ottawa pick and get a chance to pick either Mcdavid and Eichel, also the Gionta and Morris trade aswell added some veterans to our lineup and I believed they've helped our younger players and hopefully help make a push in this very deep Eastern Conference".

Steeve Cyr

You did an amazing job with the Caps MA, I think you and Mike (Philly) will fight for the title of GM of the year.
