Congrats Mathieu, back to back Stanley Cup championships in Philly with 2 different GMs.  Mike Paquenet did a great job with that team in the past few years, you took over the Flyers and brought back the cup in Philadelphia, well done!

The Ducks have played the game they wanted to play last night, limiting the Flyers to only 22 shots but that’s all they needed.  Trailing 0-1 after 2 periods, Hossa (6:35) and Gudbranson (16.59) scored in the 3^rd to win the game and the Cup, leaving GM Leger with a 0-2 record in Stanley Cup finals.

On the offensive side, the Flyers got awesome playoffs performances from Foligno, Sharp, Kopitar, Hossa, Bjugstad and Josi.  Miller, Gudbranson, Franzen and Girardi were at all +9 or better an Niemi was standing strong when he had to.

Patrice Bergeron won the Conn Smythe trophy in a losing cause.

GM Jobin won’t really be able to relax and enjoy the Cup during the off season , there’s a lot of work ahead.   With Franzen retiring, Hossa (36), Zubrus (37), Sharp (34), Kelly (35) and Spezza not getting any younger the Flyers will need young blood in their top 9.  What about Niemi, he just won 2 cups for the Flyers, but he’ll turn 33 and he might be affected by the rerates, he still has 2 years left to a front loaded contract ($3.9M, $3,5M). The defensive squad is young and solid; Roman Josi (26), Erik Karlsson (25), Mattias Ekholm (25) and Erik Gudbranson (23) could be part of that top 4 for years to come and Girardi might be offered to acquire a winger.  The Flyers would like prospects like Teravainen, Scherbak and Zykov to step up and make the team in a near future.
