Oilers draft day report

July 28th kicked off the official "rebuild" of the Edmonton Oilers franchise.

" We need to do this right" explained GM Lozinski

" I have learned a lot in my 3 years at the helm. I made some stupid mistakes along the way. I truly belive that with the new SIM settings, and salary cap, the only true way to build a lasting contender is through the draft"

The Oilers started off the day making a trade with Chicago, sending the 12th overall pick and a 3rd round pick to acquire the 21st overall pick and young defender Martin Marincin.

" Josh Ho-Sang was a guy that we really wanted to acquire. We felt that we could move down in the draft and acquire a young promising player in Marincin, and still manage to acquire Ho-Sang"

The biggest acquisition of the day was the #3 overall pick, Leon Draisaitl.

"Leon is a hulking you kid that is going to bring some size and skill to our lineup. He will be a premier centre man in this league for 20+ years"

The Oilers future is starting to look exceptionally bright.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, Leon Draisaitl, Josh Ho-Sang, Quinton Howdon, Justin Schultz, Jamie Oleksiak and Oscar Klefbom headline a young group of upcoming stars.

We have another painful year ahead of us, but after that, it will be time to start building a lasting contender.
