The Wings land in Hockeytown with Lord Stanley Holy Grail!

After tasting a Stanley Cup final last year but failing to achieve the ultimate goal, the Wings learned from that experience and won it all this year.  "We probably had a better team on paper last year, but last year play offs experience helped a lot, the guys didn't want to relive the nightmare to lose in the final again.  Last summer was a really long one, we couldn't wait to be back on the ice to get another shot at it"  GM Cyr said.

Even with all the offensive weapons in the Wings' uniform, it's their defense who made them win the president trophy finishing the season with the best defensive of the league but ranked only 13th in the league offensively... it all changed in the playoffs where they scored 75 goals in 21 games, an average of 3.57 goal per game, the best in the league. "Jonathan has been our MVP this season, he won the Vezina trophy, we couldn't ask for a better performance from him, but in the play offs our offensive leaders stood up in the big moments".  Detroit's first line was tremendous, Datsyuk, Crosby and St. Louis accumulated 79 points during that run.  Zetterberg and Parenteau were also there when we needed them and Suter became our main man at the blue line, and how about Huberdeau celebrating his first stanley cup play offs with 14 points.

Couldn't ask for a better year as the Griffins also got their championship, the Calder cup.  We had a team full of veterans leaded by a brilliant young dman, Dougie Hamilton who won the playoffs MVP award.  Beagle, Bang and goaltender Markstrom were also phenomenal.

"Summer will be short for our organization, we'll take a few days to enjoy this accomplishment, but there's a lot of work and heart wrenching decisions ahead ".  Considering Cam Talbot should replace Emery as the Wings' back up next year, the Wings have engaged $71.6 million in salary toward next season already... for only 16 players.  They will need to cut down at least $3 or 4 millions and add 4 players to their roster in the process, this should be interesting.  "We expect to lose a few key players, it won't be easy but we should remain competitive".  The Wings already announced they wouldn't retain the services of Ray Emery and Joni Pitkanen has been made available for a trade.  David Moss status is also uncertain and he could be free to offer his services to any team on July 1st.  Among the players who could leave Detroit this summer, rumors are flying.  MacDonald, St Louis, Orpik, Seidenberg, Parenteau are the names more frequently heard.
