New Era In Dallas

2013-08-19

The 2012-2013 Dallas Stars were good. Very good. The first full year GM Kevin Rockett was in office, saw the team go 47-20-15 (109pts). That was good enough to win the division, finish 2nd in the Western conference behind the powerhouse Detroit Red Wings, and 2nd overall. With the team they had assembled, they looked poised to make another run this coming season. That is until GM Rockett announced that the Stars would not only be rebranding, but rebuilding as well. When asked why, Kevin Rockett had this to say:

"Look at it this way. Yes we probably could have had a very competitive team again this season, but everyone is a year older. Half our team was in their mid to late 30's. Do you really think we'd have a shot to win against a younger, more skilled team? We kept the pieces we want to build around, and added a lot of youth. Most of them aren't ready to play on the big club just yet, but that's what the AHL is there for. We have set ourselves up to compete down the road, but kept enough pieces in place to have a real shot a making the playoffs again. Once you're in, anything can happen".

Let's have a look at who is In/Out in the Stars organization this coming offseason.
