Beantown Roaring With Trades

The Boston Bruins have just made a splash in the trade market.  The trades that GM Arcesi has just made seem like trades that would be done at the trade deadline or more specifically in the off-season.  The first trade that came about involved GM Arcesi shipping a 5^th round pick and young hopeful Corbin McPherson to the Vancouver Canucks for veteran stay at home defenseman Scott Hannon.  This move helps the Bruins increase their defensive ability, which is about the only weak spot on the team, but unfortunately, a very bad place to be weak.

The second trade that the Bruins pulled off later that evening, or more like in the early hours of the morning saw something that most thought would never be done…The Bruins and Oilers made a deal.  GM Arcesi and GM Lozinski have thrown offers around since the inception of this league and have never been able to come to an agreement…until this trade.

The blockbuster deal sees the Bruins sending to Edmonton veteran star Marian Hossa and a 1^st round pick in the 2013 entry draft and in return, the Bruins receive young star Jonathan Toews.

GM Arcesi spoke to the press this morning about his two transactions and stated the following:  “I don’t normally like to make trades during the season, but let’s face it…our team is not off to the start that we should be off to.  If you look at the talent…and the payroll of this team, we should not be a team that is 4-3-0.  We’ve lost two games this season to teams that we should have destroyed.  The other loss, well, although I feel we should have won, I can accept that loss as they are a team that should be competing for a playoff spot, unlike the other two teams we lost to.  We cannot afford to lose games against non-playoff teams.  When I traded for Marian, I was hopeful that he would bring an offense, defensive and leadership punch to this team…and unfortunately, his 2 goals and -3 rating this season was not what I was looking for.  Jonathan Toews on the other hand, is EVERYTHING this club is looking for.  He’ll be centering a line with Giroux on his right side and Parise on his left.  We’re hoping that this will spark the two wingers.  As for Hannon…I like his defensive play.  It is something we are lacking on the back end.  I think he will surely help give our net minders some much added relief.  And when you can bring in another Olympic gold medalist/Stanley Cup champion on your roster...you do it.”

When asked if the Bruins were done making deals…Arcesi said…Well, I can assure you, that we will be making at least one or two more deals before the trade deadline…and maybe even a lot sooner.
